Merchant Spotlight: DoughGirl

Jun 5, 2026

There's something about freshly baked cookies that just hits differently. The smell. The first warm bite. The way they make even the most ordinary Tuesday feel like a tiny celebration.

That's the energy DoughGirl bottles up and sends out in every order.

Born out of Emma Colclough's genuine love of baking and the joy it brings, DoughGirl started in a home kitchen with a few late-night experiments and a whole lot of love. Today, it's one of the most indulgent, creative, and downright delicious independent bakeries we've come across — and a serious favourite when it comes to corporate gifts that actually get people talking.

Bold flavours. Generous fillings. Beautiful pink packaging that practically begs to be opened. This is gifting with a side of pure happiness.

What inspired you to start your business?

DoughGirl was born out of a genuine love for baking and the joy it brings to Emma Colclough (Director) in the process, and to people enjoying the goods. We've always believed that food is an experience, and we wanted to create something indulgent, memorable and a bit magical.

Seeing the way a warm, gooey cookie can light up someone's day was the spark. It started in our kitchen, with a few experiments and a lot of late-night baking — and quickly grew into something much bigger than we could've imagined.

What's the biggest lesson you've learnt so far on your journey?

The biggest lesson we've learnt so far is the importance of being prepared to evolve.

Running a business is never static — markets shift, customer needs change, and new opportunities arise. What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow, so adaptability is crucial.

We've come to realise that staying open to change, continually reassessing our direction, and being willing to pivot when necessary isn't a sign of weakness — it's a strength. Embracing evolution has allowed the business to grow in ways we hadn't originally imagined, and it's taught us that flexibility often paves the way for resilience and long-term success.

What makes your business special?

At DoughGirl, we're not just selling cookies — we're delivering moments of joy.

Every product is handmade using only the finest ingredients and a whole lot of love. There's a real sense of care behind everything we do, from the recipe development to the way we package each order.

Plus, we're constantly pushing creative boundaries — we want our bakes to surprise, delight, and maybe even cause a bit of a frenzy!

What's your favourite product and why?

Without a doubt — the White Chocolate Bueno Cookie Pie.

It's the ultimate indulgence. The combination of silky white chocolate, creamy hazelnut, and that soft, buttery cookie base is pure heaven. Every bite is a little celebration.

It perfectly represents what DoughGirl is all about — bold flavours, generous fillings, and absolute decadence.

What's the top piece of advice you would give to fellow small business owners?

Stay true to what makes your brand different, and don't be afraid to evolve as you grow.

Also, don't underestimate the power of community — connect with your customers, support other small businesses, and celebrate every win, no matter how small.

What's the most memorable gift you've ever received?

It has to be our recipe book filled with family baking recipes and blank pages to fill with my own.

It reminded me how personal and powerful food can be — and it's still something I treasure. In many ways, it's where the early ideas for DoughGirl really started to take shape.
